Dallas Cowboys: Who will be the primary backup to Dak Prescott?
The Dallas Cowboys seemingly have all positions on their team somewhat sorted out all except for one. Who will back up Dak Prescott?
The Dallas Cowboys have long left the backup quarterback position as an afterthought. Now with a quarterback in Dak Prescott that is an injury risk due to his ability to run with the ball, this team must figure out who will be the backup. This preseason will be crucial for Cooper Rush and Mike White.
Cooper Rush‘s showing last preseason left a lot of people wondering if he would be able to handle that role. Completing 46 of 74 for 358 yards, with one touchdown and four interceptions didn’t do him any favors in the eyes of fans. This season might be the last time we see Rush if he doesn’t return to his 398 yards passing, six touchdowns and zero interceptions of 2017.
The quarterback that must get a chance this offseason to get a good picture of how Mike White can perform with better talent around him. Last season, White was put in games behind an offensive line riddled with players who weren’t going to make the team. He also didn’t have the best players to throw the ball too which lead to him going 44 of 70 for 414 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception.
The Cowboys used a draft pick on White for a reason and not on Rush. White has a better chance to play in the NFL because of his accuracy and arm strength. His ability to throw into a tight window and make plays down the field bode well for him.
But the only way Mike White will be able to show off this talent is if the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff gives him a fair shot with the same talent that Cooper Rush gets. If they don’t, then it’s safe to say that Rush will once again be the number two quarterback on this team.
