Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has been in the headlines a lot lately, it shouldn’t take 30 plus million guesses to figure out why.

Dak Prescott is on the precipice of signing an extension with the Dallas Cowboys that many have reported will be north of $30 million dollars when it’s all said and done. There is a certain sector of Cowboys fans out there that are almost enraged at the notion, while some are indifferent and a very few that are on board. Here is why we all should be just fine with Dallas locking up their quarterback of the present and future, no matter the cost.

If you take a look at what he’s done so far, that’s the very first reason. With a career record of 32-16, a winning percentage of 66 percent to save the calculations, that is pretty darn good. Even though that’s only in three seasons, the fact that he’s been winning games since he was a rookie from day one makes it just that much more impressive.

Critics will point to his 66 percent career completion percentage, which isn’t awful by any means in itself and if you consider the fact that he ranked 10th in the league last season with a completion percentage of 67.3 percent, you can see that he is actually pretty good in that area as well. A two-time Pro-Bowler in three seasons, he also led the Dallas Cowboys to the playoffs twice in three years, and into a divisional match-up this past season before losing to the eventual Superbowl losers in the Los Angeles Rams.

In also thinking about his critics, another reason that he should be the guy is that even with his so-called deficiencies as a passer, he’s still experienced the levels of success he has. This speaks to a winning mentality and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win, whether that be making plays with his legs or converting on the most important plays in crucial moments with his arm.

With his arm talent in question as well, it is safe to say that he hasn’t played his best football yet. While he already has displayed the mentality and poise of a seasoned veteran quarterback, his best football is still more than likely ahead of him. Along with his poise as a quarterback, something else that has helped him get this far is his ability to be a leader, which is the next reason he is definitely the Cowboys’ guy of the future.

If you look at times when the Cowboys should have hung their heads, or situations where most would have given up on the team, Dak Prescott and his team did none of that at all. After losing to the Titans last season, which left them with a record of 3-5, they appeared to need to win nearly all of their remaining games to even sniff the playoffs.

That’s just what they did to finish with a playoff-eligible record of 10-6. Besides them winning when they needed to in order to make the postseason, there have been multiple instances in-game where his leadership ability was on full display.

The last reason why Dak should and will be the quarterback of the future is pretty simple. In today’s NFL that is a quarterbacks league, if you don’t have one, you’re searching for one. If you can’t find one, your chances to win big are pretty much non-existent.

These are the reasons why Dak should be the guy of the future at quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. The market dictates whatever the number is that he will be paid to do it, but his performance over the course of his first three seasons has dictated that he be paid that number. He’s earned it whether the fans like it or not, and he will continue to make the Cowboys organization look like geniuses, once for drafting him in the fourth round and then again for making sure he got his money.
