Dallas Cowboys: Why Dak Prescott will break out in 2019
By Jack Baker
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has received much criticism since his rookie season of 2016. The time is now for Prescott to break out.
The Dallas Cowboys organization was essentially saved by quarterback Dak Prescott in 2016. The Cowboys were coming off a 4-12 record in 2015 and before the season even started it looked as if the same would happen since Cowboys legend Tony Romo was hurt before the season even started. The rest is history.
Since Prescott’s 2016 Rookie of the Year season, we have seen flashes of the old #4, but not the consistency Dak showed his first year in the NFL. In 2019, that will change.
There is a lot of things that have happened this offseason that will help Dak breakout. For starters, new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has experienced both sides of Prescott. As a teammate and as a coach. No one knows what will help Dak succeed then Kellen Moore because quite frankly, no one knows Dak Prescott like Kellen Moore.
Dak now has weapons all around him like never before. Yes, 2016 was a very solid offense but former Cowboy Dez Bryant was not the player he once was, Terrance Williams was still catching with his body, and Prescott made the most out of Cole Beasley.
With another year under his belt with wideouts Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup, and you throw in Randall Cobb. The skies the limit for Prescott in 2019.
The main reason I think Prescott will have his best year yet in 2019 is that it is his contract year. Dak Prescott knows as well as anybody that nothing is guaranteed in this league and he knows that if he does not perform well in 2019, he will not get the money he wants.
If you look around the NFL, every player plays there best in their contract year. For instance, DeMarcus Lawrence has had 25 combined sacks the past two years when playing for a major payday. Dak Prescott knows what is on the line, he knows what kind of talent he has all over the field, and he knows that 2019 is his year.
