NFL Draft 2019: Dallas Cowboys select Donovan Wilson No. 213 overall
Coming off two defensive selections in the fifth round, the Dallas Cowboys decided to finally draft a safety with their lone sixth rounder.
The Dallas Cowboys didn’t own a sixth round pick coming into the 2019 NFL Draft, having traded it away to the Cincinnati Bengals for former cornerback Bene Benwikere back in September of 2017. But during the course of the draft, Dallas traded down and acquired the 213th overall selection in the sixth round from, ironically, the Bengals.
After a long wait between selection, the Cowboys opted to finally address their safety position at the end of the sixth round.
With the 213th overall selection in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select …
NAME: Donovan Wilson
POSITION: Safety
SCHOOL: Texas A&M
HT/WT: 6-0, 199
2018 Stats: 67 tackles. 5.5 tfls, 2.0 sacks, 2 ints, 2 pds, 1 forced fumble
PROS: Long arms, good size, finisher, special teams, hard hitter, toughness
CONS: Timing, penalties, footwork, speed
QUICK ANALYSIS: Should find a place on the Cowboys’ special teams unit in order to avoid practice squad. Could be a potential replacement for backup Kavon Frazier as he’s in the final year of his rookie deal in Dallas. Can play nickel. This is the same round the Cowboys found starting safety Xavier Woods two years ago.
