Should the Dallas Cowboys sign a bargain running back now?
The Dallas Cowboys seem to be content to wait until the draft to find their backup running back. But waiting until then could be a mistake.
The Dallas Cowboys were able to make an unbelievable trade earlier this week for defensive end Robert Quinn and only gave up a 2020 sixth round pick for him. Outside of signing defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence to a long term deal, this seems like the kind of move you would do to cap off a great free agency. So are the Cowboys done or could they be looking at another position now?
It’s hard to believe that the Cowboys would really be done in free agency since they haven’t taken a look at any running backs in free agency. With more than a few good running backs left on the market, it’s somewhat surprising that they haven’t. If the Cowboys are done, then they must be planning to take a running back in the draft or opting to wait to sign a free agent afterwards.
Which could be a mistake on their part. It’s always best to have a backup plan just in case you miss out on the player you want in the draft. And waiting could have you missing out on some great veteran options like Isaiah Crowell, who just signed a one-year deal worth up to $2.5 million to join the Oakland Raiders.
A free agent running back like T.J. Yeldon would be a great fit for the Cowboys and you can get him at a good price right now. Adding a player of his caliber on a low dollar deal should be the way this team ends their free agency binge.
So if the Dallas Cowboys truly want to end free agency on a high note, then they need to make sure they cover their bases at running back. If they don’t, then they might just miss out on another huge bargain while other teams stockpile players for training camp.
