According to reports, the Dallas Cowboys have parameters in place with the Miami Dolphins to trade for veteran pass rusher Robert Quinn.

Last season, the Dallas Cowboys unexpectedly got 6.0 sacks from former second-round bust, defensive end Randy Gregory. Unfortunately, Gregory was indefinitely suspended by the NFL in February for once again violating the league’s substance abuse policy. That left the Cowboys with a major void to fill at their critical right defensive end position.

But according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys now have the parameters in place in order to make a trade for Miami Dolphins’ defensive end Robert Quinn. The 28-year old is expected to agree to a new one-year contract in order to make the deal happen. That according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Update: According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, the Cowboys have agreed to send a 2020 sixth round selection to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for defensive end Robert Quinn. His new one-year deal is worth a reported $8 million, with another possible $1 million in incentives.

A former first-round selection out of North Carolina in 2011, Quinn was considered to be a premier pass rusher during his first seven seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. A two-time Pro Bowler, the talented edge rusher posting a ridiculous 19.0 sacks in 2013. But injuries limited Quinn in his last couple seasons with the Rams resulting in the Dolphins trading for him last March.

The veteran edge rusher played in all 16 games for Miami last season. Quinn posted 38 total tackles and 6.5 sacks in 16 starts. He was slated to make a whopping $11.8 million base salary in 2019. And that’s one of the reasons the Dolphins are willing to part ways with him.

With Robert Quinn now set to join the Dallas Cowboys’ roster, America’s Team secures themselves a quality pass rusher not named DeMarcus Lawrence. The team is reportedly at an impasse when it comes to contract negotiations with Lawrence, whom Dallas used the franchise tag to secure for the second year in a row. There is hope that the pending acquisition of Quinn could actually help to spur his signing.
