The Dallas Cowboys need to shore up their defensive end position. And according to sources, the team views the Miami Dolphins’ Robert Quinn as the answer.

Following the indefinite suspension of Randy Gregory for once again for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, the Dallas Cowboys have a major void to fill at defensive end. And the fact the team’s other starting defensive end, DeMarcus Lawrence, and the Cowboys are reportedly at an impasse in their contract negotiations only magnifies that need.

Enter in the Miami Dolphins and defensive end Robert Quinn. The Dolphins are interested in trading away the veteran pass rusher and Dallas could use him. In fact, Quinn visited with the Cowboys just last week. He was also reportedly scheduled to meet with the New Orleans Saints on Monday.

According to Clarence Hill Jr. of the Star-Telegram, the Cowboys covet Quinn and see him as a key piece to their win-now puzzle.

"” … the Cowboys want Quinn, badly, according to sources. They view him as the key off-season acquisition that puts them over the top in their win-now mode of moves since the end of the 2018 season.”"

Quinn was the 14th overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft out of North Carolina by the St. Louis Rams. He posted double-digit sack totals for three out of his first four seasons in the NFL. Quinn’s best year came in 2013 when he recorded 57 total tackles and a whopping 19.0 sacks. He was elected to his first Pro Bowl and named to the All-Pro first team that same season.

The 28-year old pass rusher spent the first seven years of his career with the Rams. Last March, Los Angeles traded Quinn to the Dolphins for a fourth-round selection in 2018 along with swapping sixth rounders. He had just posted 8.5 sacks for the Rams the previous season, his highest total since 2014.

One of the reasons the Rams were willing to trade Quinn was due to his recent rash of injuries. After missing just one game in his first four seasons in St. Louis, the former first rounder has missed a total of 16 games in the last four years.

Last season in Miami, Robert Quinn posted a respectable 6.5 sacks along with 38 total tackles while starting all 16 games for the 7-9 Dolphins. That bodes well for what he might do in Dallas this upcoming season if the Cowboys can get a trade deal done.
