Dallas Cowboys: Has Robert Quinn held up DeMarcus Lawrence’s deal?
The Dallas Cowboys have been rumored to be in trade talks with the Miami Dolphins for Robert Quinn. Is this why DeMarcus Lawrence is without a new contract?
The Dallas Cowboys have been preaching for months that star defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence is going to be with the organization for a long time. Yet there has been no movement or news on talks since the NFL Combine when Lawrence’s camp turned down the Cowboys’ offer. But what if the reason no new information has come out is due to the Miami Dolphins.
Could the Dolphins have approached the Cowboys about trading defensive end Robert Quinn at the combine? If so this could be the reason that Dallas have laid off talks with Lawrence and his agent to get Quinn first.
Once the public heard about these trade talks, both teams were clearly in a place where the Dolphins were comfortable sending Quinn to meet with the Cowboys to talk about his contract and meet coaches.
This seems to be where we are at now and this is why it is holding up Lawrence’s deal. The Cowboys currently have around $13 million in cap space according to Spotrac.com after the signings of wide receiver Randall Cobb and defensive lineman Kerry Hyder, which isn’t leaving much for Dallas to play with.
Both Lawrence and Quinn are looking for extensions. And while D-Law is looking for more top defensive end money, we have no idea what Quinn is looking for.
If the Dallas Cowboys want to pay both, they need to get the smaller deal done and try to trade for Quinn on a deal that’s very team-friendly financially. If the Cowboys are able to get that done then the deal for DeMarcus Lawrence should soon follow. Hopefully, both sides can come to an agreement soon so fans can rest easy heading into the draft.
