The Dallas Cowboys are signing players and checking off boxes. Is this a sign that they are prepared to do some wheeling and dealing in the draft?

After over a week of silence from the Dallas Cowboys in free agency, they have come alive. Bringing in players for visits and signing former Green Bay Packer wide receiver Randall Cobb. With the players they have signed they are checking off boxes that make it easier to become players in the draft.

Going into the off-season we knew that the Cowboys needed to find help at the safety, wide receiver, defensive tackle, linebacker, tight end, and swing tackle positions. While they have missed out on a few safeties at the moment they have been able to cover themselves at all of the other positions. If the Cowboys are able to sign either George Iloka or Eric Berry then they will have the ability to take the best player available or make trades.

If the Dallas Cowboys want to the best player available on their draft board when it’s their time to make a pick it would only strengthen a team that has an abundance of talent on it currently. If I was able to make the decisions this would be the route I would take. Unfortunately, I don’t and I have a feeling that owner/general manager Jerry Jones may not do this in the draft.

We know that Jones loves to make moves in the draft but have been fairly conservative in recent drafts. The last big move made was trading for defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence in 2014. There Jones gave up the Cowboys 47th and 78th picks to move up to the 34th pick to get Lawrence.

I believe this is what the Dallas Cowboys are positioning themselves for and with Jerry Jones, at the helm, it will make the draft a lot more interesting that’s for sure. So buckle up because the Cowboys are about to take us on another draft thrill ride.
