To the displeasure of several fans, the Dallas Cowboys‘ front office has been very quiet in free agency. But should they make a splash with safety Eric Berry?

Update: According to several sources, Eric Berry will be visiting the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday.

The free agent market was loaded with safeties this year, but the Dallas Cowboys‘ front office has not made one move on any of these players. The hopeful choice of many fans was All-Pro safety Earl Thomas. As you probably know by now, Thomas decided to get a major payday with Baltimore Ravens rather than take a home town discount with the Cowboys.

Even though it seems that all of the big name safeties are now signed with another team, there is still talent at the position on the free agent market. And one name stands above the rest: Eric Berry.

Berry has been regarded as one of, if not the, best safety in the past decade as he has been to five Pro Bowls and named to the NFL’s All-Pro team three times since being drafted in 2010. Berry was released last Wednesday by the Kansas City Chiefs where he spent the first nine years of his career.

When Berry is on the field, he is still one of the NFL’s biggest ball hawks. Berry’s has totaled 14 interceptions in 89 career games. Including four picks in 2016, the last time he played a full season.

If Berry is on the field, you can almost guarantee production. But, that is a big if. He has battled a multitude of injuries throughout his career. Whether it is his knees, legs, or ankles; The 30-year old’s durability and availability are a real concern.

In his nine-year career, Berry has only played a full 16 games three times. One year his absence was due to his diagnoses of having Hodgkins Lymphoma, which forced him to miss 11 games in 2014.
