The Dallas Cowboys secure an important part of their offensive line, agreeing to terms with swing tackle Cameron Fleming for the next two seasons.

The Dallas Cowboys have made a huge investment along their offensive line in recent years. With three first-round selections and a second rounder in 2018 starting along their O-Line, it’s a unit that is the envy of most NFL teams.

The offensive line in Dallas includes perennial Pro Bowlers in left tackle Tyron Smith, right guard Zack Martin and center Travis Frederick. Starting right tackle La’el Collins appeared to be on the path of a possible Pro Bowl nod himself after 2017 but regressed last year. And last offseason, the Cowboys used their second-round selection on Connor Williams out of Texas, who started his rookie season at left guard.

But depth on the offensive line played an important part of the Cowboys’ success in 2018. Dallas took a major blow before the start of last season when their All-Pro center, Frederick, was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease (Guillain-Barré Syndrome). The 27-year old missed all of last season and his absence could have easily sent this unit into a tailspin.

Luckily for the Cowboys, reserve center Joe Looney played well as a 16-game starter in Frederick’s place. But Looney wasn’t the only depth player to contribute significantly to the team in 2018. Fifth-year veteran Xavier Su’a-Filo replaced rookie Connor Williams to start eight games last season as well.

On Wednesday, the Cowboys announced they had agreed to terms with another important member of their offensive line, Cameron Fleming. The former starter for the New England Patriots signed a one-year deal to come to Dallas as their reserve swing tackle last offseason. Fleming started in three games in 2018 with Pro Bowler Tyron Smith struggling with injuries.

According to Todd Archer of ESPN.com, Fleming has agreed to sign a two-year deal to remain in Dallas through 2020. Exact details about the contract have yet to be disclosed. His presence at the critical swing tackle position secures the depth along an offensive line that relied on several backups to fill-in for starters last season.
