Cornerback Brandon Carr‘s career in Dallas has become an example of what not to do when it comes to free agency. But when the Cowboys signed the former Kansas City Chief to a massive five-year, $50.1 million deal back in 2012, it seemed like a great idea.

Along with the team’s first-round selection in LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne, the combo was supposed to usher in a new era in Dallas’ secondary. Unfortunately, it ultimately had the opposite effect, as both failed to live up to their investments.

Carr’s time in Dallas may be best summed up by the play that made New York Giants’ wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. a household name. He was the man in coverage during Beckham’s infamous one-handed touchdown catch.

Carr would spend five seasons with the Cowboys. And during that span, he posted a total of seven interceptions, including going two straight seasons without a pick. Carr would later find new life with the Baltimore Ravens, but his name will forever be tainted in Dallas.
