With the free agency market opening up next week, here are three possible free agent targets we believe make sense for the Dallas Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys have made a flurry of moves recently, all in preparation for free agency which starts next week. Although many believe the Cowboys will limit their splash signings to players already on their roster, Dallas will be forced to add some free agents due to their limited amount of draft picks this year.

With that in mind, here are three veterans we believe make sense for the Cowboys to target when the free agent market opens up this week.

Jermey Parnell, Offensive Tackle

The connection is clear with Parnell. He is the Cowboys’ former swing tackle who left four years ago to chase the money and a starting gig with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now 32-years old, Parnell would be a plug and play for Dallas in his previous role, allowing the team to move on from impending free agent offensive tackle Cameron Fleming.

Ty Montgomery, Running Back/Wide Receiver

The Cowboys are looking for a change of pace running back with receiver abilities to spell starter Ezekiel Elliott. Look no further than Ty Montgomery. A former wide receiver who made the unusual switch to running back while with the Green Bay Packers embodies exactly what Dallas is looking for.

Montgomery went to high school in Dallas (St. Mark’s School of Texas), so his signing would be a bit of a homecoming for him. He’s only 26-years old, can play a part on special teams, and the Cowboys could opt to shift him to wide receiver whenever they needed to.

Earl Thomas, Safety

Despite the recent reports that the Cowboys aren’t interested in Earl Thomas at his price point, they were interested and willing to take on his contract less than a year ago. Although the market has certainly changed since then, there aren’t many future Hall of Famers available.

Thomas would have a significant impact on the Cowboys’ secondary, and the team knows it. If Dallas was able to field an elite defense in 2018 without him, imagine what they could be with him. This is the one player available in free agency who is likely worth any future salary cap issues.
