For Dallas Cowboys’ head coach Jason Garrett, it’s business as usual as the 52-year old appears unfazed going into 2019 without an extension.

Everyone’s back is against the wall. That’s how Dallas Cowboys‘ executive vice president Stephen Jones described the situation surrounding the current contract status of his longtime head coach, Jason Garrett.

After posting a 3-5 record to start last season, Garrett helped to turn around the Cowboys, leading them to a 10-6 season-ending record, securing the NFC East title and posting a playoff victory over the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card round. But once again, Garrett was unable to lead Dallas past the Divisional Round of the postseason.

Now Garrett enters 2019 a lame duck coach with a single-year left on his current contract. And it appears the Cowboys have no intention of offering the 52-year old an extension until after seeing the results of this upcoming season.

The message has been sent loud and clear. It’s win or go home for Garrett this season. And it appears it’s a deep playoff run or bust for the nine-year head coach.

On Wednesday, Garrett addressed the media at the NFL Scouting Combine. Here’s what the Cowboys’ head coach told Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News when asked if he felt any added pressure entering the season without a contract extension.

"“No. Everyone of us tries to come into our building with a sense of urgency everyday. To try to be our best individually. And try to be our best for our football team. That hasn’t changed for me in thirty years. That’s what we try to instill in our players. And we certainly want to live that as coaches.”"

If you’ve listened to Jason Garrett before, you’ll recognize this as the typically robotic answer we’ve gotten from him time and time again. But the simple truth is he means it. The repetitive Garrett lives by the same code that he demands his players live by. He truly appears unshaken by the fact he’ll have no job security entering the 2019 regular season.
