With Kellen Moore being announced as the Dallas Cowboys‘ new offensive coordinator, changes will happen. So who are some guys that can help?

The Dallas Cowboys are trying to improve their offense in a plethora of ways, and that is no secret. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have fired Scott Linehan and hired Kellen Moore. However, in order to take the next stop modernizing their offense, they need to get some players that fit the modern game. These players are “gadget” players.

First off, when I think of a gadget player, I think of someone who can really do well in multiple spots and make an impact with the ball in or out of their hand in all those different spots. As NFL offenses are trending more towards spread style offenses, a lot more offensive positions are becoming more interchangeable. Just look at how running back Christian McCaffrey has made an impact with the Carolina Panthers this season.

So without wasting any more time, let’s look at three players Dallas can target in the draft or free agency, to fill this “gadget” role and expand Kellen Moore‘s offense.

#1 – Cordarrelle Patterson, WR

Patterson is the perfect gadget player fit for Dallas, and someone who really has played the role his whole career. He’s gonna return kicks and punts really well, but he can also run the ball out of the backfield and split out wide. Those are Two things he did well for New England this past season.

While Patterson has some issues with his hands, the Cowboys should get enough statistical production out of Michael Gallup and Amari Cooper this year where Patterson can play the role of creating open areas for other players. Cordarrelle can be used in motion and on deep routes. Just being on the field makes him a threat from multiple areas.
