The Dallas Cowboys are in a situation that is very reminiscent of 2010. A head coach on the hot seat and a young and talented coordinator lying in wait.

When the Dallas Cowboys opened the 2010 season with head coach Wade Phillips and high expectations after an 11-5 season in 2009. Just like that 2010 team this 2019 Cowboys team has high expectations after going 10-6 last season. It also has a highly regarded coordinator waiting in the wings who could replace Jason Garrett just like he replaced Wade Phillips mid-season.

This upcoming season is eerily similar to the 2010 season in two major ways. First, you had owner Jerry Jones telling the media that he is fully behind Wade Phillips. Well, Jones is doing it all over again but this time it is Jason Garrett.

Another similarity would be that the young and highly regarded coordinator waiting in the wings that turned around one side of the ball. In 2010 it was Jason Garrett who led the Dallas Cowboys offense and caught the eye of owner Jerry Jones in the process.

This time around it is the defensive passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach Kris Richard who has caught Jones’s eye. It’s well known that Richard was calling the defensive plays and turned around a defensive unit and making it the strength of the team.

With Jones holding off on bringing in an experienced offensive coordinator to help his offense and not giving Garrett a contract extension it’s looking more and more like Jones will give Garrett just enough rope to hang himself.

Next. Dallas Cowboys: 3 prospects for the 58th overall pick. dark

If Garrett hopes to have any chance of keeping his job he will probably need to get to the NFC Championship game possibly the Super Bowl. If he doesn’t or the team’s offense begins the season like it did last year and the Dallas Cowboys have another losing record Garrett could be gone before the end of the season.

How do you think this plays out? Jason Garrett gets fired mid-season like Wade Phillips or will he survive?
