The Dallas Cowboys have officially named Kellen Moore their offensive coordinator. One of his biggest advocates appears to be Dak Prescott.

Last season was a successful one for the Dallas Cowboys. They finished the year with a 10-6 record, won their division for the second time in three years, and earned themselves a playoff berth. Although their quest for a championship ended in the divisional round, by all accounts it was a favorable outcome for Dallas.

Yet, it was far from perfect. The Cowboys defense, which had been heralded as one of the best in the NFL for much of the season, began to falter towards the end of the year. And they continued to struggle when it came to getting takeaways, recording just nine total interceptions in 2018, which was tied for 26th lowest in the league.

But the bigger concern was on the offensive side of the ball. After starting the season losing four of their first seven games, the Cowboys used their bye week to make some critical changes. Dallas traded away their 2019 first round selection to the Oakland Raiders for wide receiver Amari Cooper. And the team fired offensive line coach Paul Alexander, promoting Marc Colombo in his place.

Those changes help to spur the Cowboys to a five-game winning streak starting in Week 10 against some of the top teams in the NFL like the New Orleans Saints, the Atlanta Falcons and two victories over the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Yet, despite the improved standings and the presence of a true number one wide receiver in the lineup, the Cowboys only averaged 22.1 points per game following their Week Eight bye. And in Week 15, Dallas’ offense was completely shutout and embarrassed by the Indianapolis Colts, 23-0.

The Cowboys knew something needed to change this offseason and earlier this month Dallas choose to part ways with their longtime offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. On Thursday, the team announced they have promoted former quarterbacks coach, Kellen Moore, to replace Linehan as their new OC.

Although many fans balked at the idea of hiring the new offensive voice from Linehan’s former coaching staff, one of Moore’s biggest advocates has been quarterback Dak Prescott. Here’s what the third-year passer told the Dallas Morning News about his former positional coach and teammate.

"“[Moore] can be crazy creative. From the time he was a player to his time now, he sits over there, we’re watching plays and he’ll draw a play up and say, ‘Hey, this is a compliment off that.’ I mean that was the main reason I pushed for him to be the quarterback coach in the first place because I knew the intelligence he has in the game, how smart he is, how creative he can be. He’s a phenom when it comes to the game.”"

One of the main criticism of the Dallas Cowboys’ offense for years has been a lack of creativity. Although many would have preferred a hire of someone with an outside perspective to come in and influence the offense, Kellen Moore has earned the trust of the organization, the admiration of his peers and, most importantly, the stamp of approval from quarterback Dak Prescott.

Now the only thing the 29-year old former backup quarterback needs to do is win ballgames to convince the rest of us.
