3 free agents the Dallas Cowboys should consider signing
By Jack Baker
As the Dallas Cowboys look to fill the voids in the roster, the free agency market could be the place to go to help the Cowboys build on the success of 2018.
The Dallas Cowboys have made it clear that the number one priority of the 2019 offseason in to re-sign Pro Bowl defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence to a long term deal.
The Cowboys main focus as of now is the NFL draft which will take place in late April. After the draft, the front office needs to focus on the free agency market to help improve the Dallas roster.
Earl Thomas/Safety
The Cowboys had the chance to trade for safety Earl Thomas during last years draft as reports came out that Seattle was wanting a second-round pick in exchange for the All-Pro safety.
Thomas has made it very clear that he wants to be playing for America’s Team.
Earl Thomas is the playmaker that the Cowboys secondary needs as he has totaled 28 career interceptions. Thomas hauled in three interceptions in 2018, two against Dallas in Week 3, before fracturing his leg in Week 4 against the Arizona Cardinals.
The addition of Earl Thomas would mean a departure for safety Jeff Heath, which would bring a smile almost all of Cowboys nation.
Ndamukong Suh/Defensive Tackle
Ndamukong Suh has been one of, if not the best-run stuffer in the league since he was drafted second overall in the 2010 draft by the Detroit Lions.
The Cowboys saw for themselves that having a true run stuffer in the middle can be a true season changer, as Suh helped shut down running back Ezekiel Elliott in the Divisional round allowing Zeke to gain a grand total of 47 yards on 20 carries.
The Cowboys defensive line was exposed that night in Los Angeles as the Rams had two separate running backs both go for over 100 yards.
Suh, who is playing on a pricey one year deal for the Rams would have to sign a similar type of contract with the Cowboys if the Rams let him walk after the Super Bowl.
Golden Tate/Wide Receiver
At the 2018 trade deadline, the Detroit Lions dealt wideout out Golden Tate to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a fourth-round pick. Once Tate arrived in Philly, he saw a bit of a drop off in his production.
Tate is a proven receiver in the NFL, as the 2019 season will be Tate’s 10th season in the league. Tate is a versatile receiver who has an act for making a play after the catch.
With wide receiver Cole Beasley looking like he might not return to Dallas, the Cowboys need to find a legitimate third option to go alongside receivers Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup.
Golden Tate has always had big games when playing in AT&T stadium. In Week 4, Tate had eight catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns when he was still playing with the Lions. If Beasley decides to leave, Golden Tate could very well have the star on his helmet come Week 1.
