The Dallas Cowboys will close out their regular season with a trip to the Big Apple to face off against the New York Giants in Week 17.

After securing the NFC East crown and a playoff berth following last weekend’s victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Dallas Cowboys head into what is essentially a meaningless matchup against the New York Giants in Week 17.

The biggest debate about this contest revolves around whether the Cowboys should take this opportunity to rest many of their starters in preparation for the postseason. The coaching staff will have to balance the risk of injury against the risk of rust.

Regardless if some of the starters sit out or not, the Cowboys simply don’t have enough players on their active roster to sit every starter. And players like running back Ezekiel Elliott, who has a chance to become the league’s leading rusher for the second time in the past three seasons, securing those types of accolades are somewhat important.

Also, consider the fact head coach Jason Garrett likely prefers to end this season with a 10-6 record rather than posting back-to-back 9-7 records. Many seem to believe Dallas will treat this divisional matchup like a preseason game, playing most of their starters for a limited amount of time before replacing them after a set number of series or between quarters.
