Throughout the Dallas Cowboys 2018 season, Dak Prescott and Jason Garrett have been criticized continuously. Like it or not, they are here to stay.

During the Dallas Cowboys 2018 regular season, which has been as unpredictable as I can remember, there have been two consistent topics circling America’s Team. One, is quarterback Dak Prescott going to get a contract extension in 2019? And two, will the Cowboys finally be moving on from head coach Jason Garrett?

Everyone seems to have their own hot takes about what will happen, but like it or not I firmly believe the duo of Garrett and Prescott are going to be around for a while. And here’s why …

The Case for Jason Garrett

Garrett has taken an absurd amount of criticism this year from the fans and national media. My question: Why are so many people still wanting to get rid of him?

The nine-year head coach has turned this Cowboys team around from a 3-5 start to posting a 9-6 record with a game to go. At the midseason point, Garrett’s job was believed to be in real jeopardy. But somehow he found a way to guide America’s Team to six wins over their next seven games, leading them to a division title.

With “coach clapper” leading the Cowboys to their third division championship in five years, it puts Garrett in some elite company. The only other head coaches to win at least three division titles since 2014 are New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick, Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin, and Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid. Garrett now finds himself in some rare company.

The Case for Dak Prescott

After the 2018 season ends, Prescott has one year left on his rookie contract. I would not be surprised if owner and general manager Jerry Jones and the rest of the Cowboys front office try to sign him to an extension next offseason.

The third-year passer has many flaws: inconsistent accuracy, timing issues, and fumbling problems. The list goes on and on. Only 25 years old, Prescott is still young though. He’s proven he can be successful in this league. I believe Prescott can fix his issues going forward and become a very good, consistent NFL quarterback.

The best part about Prescott’s game is his resiliency. He has proved time and time again that when he makes a bad play he is highly capable of coming right back and making a clutch play as well.

For example, in Week 13 against the Philadelphia Eagles, Prescott was having one of the worst games of his young career throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble in the first three quarters. He would respond by passing for 273 yards and three touchdowns in the fourth quarter and overtime to secure a much-needed victory within the division.

Say what you want, but Dak Prescott is a winner. Dak has led the boys to the second most wins by any NFL team since his rookie year in 2016. So why get rid of a coach and quarterback combo that just finds ways to win football games? Let the debate begin. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
