After yet another dramatic finish, the Dallas Cowboys are on the brink of a NFC East title, doing so in what is best described as the “Cowboy Way.”

There are two main reasons why, regardless of their record, the Dallas Cowboys always get great television ratings. One reason is that they are the most polarizing franchise in the NFL. Most people either love them some Cowboys or hate everything to do with the team.

The other reason is that Dallas rarely just blows teams out. The scoreboard seems to reflect a close game, even if the play on the field dictates otherwise. Sunday’s instant classic was no different.

With 6:56 left in the third quarter and Dallas possessing the ball, the Philadelphia Eagles had gained a pathetic 90 total yards on just 25 plays, possessing the ball for only 12:24. Dallas, meanwhile, almost doubled the time of possession, ran twice as many plays for three times as many yards. And what did all this domination provide?

A scoreboard that read Eagles 0, Cowboys 9. Three of those nine points Dallas put up were thanks to a 62-yard field goal at the end of the half.

Three plays later, quarterback Dak Prescott threw his second interception of the game and that lead shrunk to 9-6. A few minutes later, a fumble by Prescott led to the game being tied. Just like that, momentum had switched sides and one thing became evident.

Nothing comes easy for this team. This is the “Cowboy Way.”

Of course, what makes you watch, week in and week out, is the Dallas Cowboys have a flare for the dramatic. A 9-9 slap fight turned into a wild 29-23 overtime thriller.

Prescott ended up setting career highs in completions, attempts and yards while tying his highest touchdown output. Ezekiel Elliott put up over 100 yards rushing for the fourth time in five games and Amari Cooper set career highs in yards and touchdown catches in a game.

It was the first time in the illustrious 58 year history of this franchise that they had a 400-yard passer, 100-yard rusher and 200-yard receiver in the same game. This, too, is the “Cowboy Way.”

Here is what is most important in all of this. In securing the dramatic victory, the Dallas Cowboys have put a stranglehold on the NFC East.

With three games left in the season, Dallas has a two game lead over both Philadelphia and Washington. The Cowboys swept the Eagles and can do no worse than 4-2 in the division. If Dallas wins just one more game or Philadelphia loses one more, Dallas wins the division.

Since the Eagles and Redskins finish the season against each other, one will be eliminated from contention by the end of that game. Oh, and the Eagles have games against the Rams and Texans before that.

The writing is on the wall. The book on the 2018 Dallas Cowboys still has a few chapters left to be written. That book cannot be complete with using words such as resilient, frustrating, exhilarating and interesting.

This team would have it no other way.  It is as fitting as can be.

It is the Cowboy Way.
