Cowboys vs. Eagles: Dallas wins in overtime thriller
The Dallas Cowboys were able to pad their lead in the NFC East with a big divisional victory over the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
The Dallas Cowboys headed into Sunday afternoon’s matchup with the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles with a chance to further secure their one-game lead in the NFC East. Sitting atop the division at 7-5, the Cowboys had the upper hand on the 6-6 Eagles due in large part to beating them just four weeks ago in Philly. That previous win actually propelled Dallas to a four-game winning streak. Could the Cowboys make it five games on Sunday?
With a victory, Dallas would have a two-game led in the division with three games to go. And as the Eagles are deemed to have a much tougher remaining schedule than the Cowboys, America’s Team would be that much closer to wearing the NFC East Crown and earning themselves an invitation to the playoffs.
Behind a career-day from the newest Cowboy, wide receiver Amari Cooper, Dallas was able to get a 29-23 win over the Eagles, although it took overtime to do so. Cooper posted an incredible 10 for 217 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winning score in overtime.
Despite throwing two interceptions and fumbling away the ball once, quarterback Dak Prescott was still able to put up an amazing 455 passing yards and three touchdowns in the important divisional victory.
For the seventh time this season, running back Ezekiel Elliott posted 100+ rushing yards in a game. Zeke finished the contest recording 113 yards on the ground and another 79 yards through the air on a whopping 12 catches. Elliott has rushed for 100+ yards in four of his last five games, all of which have resulted in wins.
Also of note, tight end Blake Jarwin caught all seven of his targets for 56 yards.
Defensively, linebacker Jaylon Smith led the team in tackles with nine combined. Defensive ends Randy Gregory and Tyrone Crawford both recorded sacks. Crawford forced a fumble by Philly quarterback Carson Wentz that was recovered by defensive tackle Maliek Collins. That was the Cowboys lone forced turnover of the day.
The 8-5 Dallas Cowboys will next head up north to face the 7-6 Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday, December 16th at Noon CST.
