The Dallas Cowboys will be without the services of defensive tackle David Irving and potentially several others against the Titans Monday night.

Most NFL teams used the bye week to rest and recuperate in preparation for the grueling season ahead. And it’s a time where players who are struggling with injuries get extra time to recover. Yet, for the Dallas Cowboys this week, some of their key players have already been ruled out to play against the Tennessee Titans on Monday night.

The biggest name among those listed as officially out on the Cowboys’ final injury report is defensive tackle David Irving. The fourth-year defender suffered a high-ankle sprain during practice on Thursday and is expected to miss up to four to six weeks because of it. Irving missed all of training camp and the preseason dealing with off-the-field issues.

Irving was also suspended for the first four games of the season due to violating the league substance abuse policy. He was suspended for the same length of games last year, but for a performance-enhancing drug violation. So far this season, Irving has played just two games and recorded three total tackles and a sack.

Also ruled out for the Cowboys’ primetime matchup against the Titans Monday night are wide receiver Tavon Austin and linebacker Joe Thomas. Austin suffered a groin injury in the team’s Week Six matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. While Thomas hasn’t played since Week Five due to a foot injury.

Listed as doubtful for Monday night’s contest is Cowboys’ starting tight end Geoff Swaim. The former seventh-rounder suffered a knee injury (sprained MCL) during the team’s Week Seven loss to the Washington Redskins.

If Swaim is unable to play against the Titans, it could mean that former basketball star Rico Gathers will get only his second start in the NFL since joining the team in 2016. Second-year tight end Blake Jarwin and rookie Dalton Schultz will also be in the mix to replace Swaim.
