The Dallas Cowboys do have a need for a quality wide receiver. Is Terrelle Pryor, who was recently released by the New York Jets, the answer?

The Dallas Cowboys leading receiver through six-games is 5-foot-8, 180-pound wideout Cole Beasley. Nine of his team-leading 26 receptions came in a breakout performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars just last weekend.

Yet, no other Cowboys receiver was able to record more than one single catch in that same game. Dallas has a severe lack of playmakers along their wide receiver corps. And that’s left both the team and fans scrambling to find answers.

Earlier this week, it was rumored that the Oakland Raiders were shopping two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, Amari Cooper. And Dallas seemed like the perfect landing spot for the former first-round talent. Yet, despite their troubles through the air, the Cowboys don’t seem at all interested in parting ways with a high draft selection in order to retain the services of an inconsistent Cooper.

But if it’s a deal the Cowboys are looking for, the New York Jets may have provided them an opportunity. On Saturday, the Jets announced they are parting ways with 29-year old receiver Terrelle Pryor. That’s despite the fact he is coming off his best game of the season, posting five receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown in a win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Pryor was signed as a free agent by New York this offseason after a disastrous year with the Washington Redskins. Coming off a breakout season with the Cleveland Browns in 2016, where he recorded 77 receptions for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns, Washington signed Pryor to a one-year, $6 million contract as a free agent.

With the Redskins, Pryor struggled due to an ankle injury (deltoid ligament tear) and recorded just 20 catches for 240 yards and a score landing on Injured Reserve after playing in just nine games. This offseason, the Jets signed the former quarterback to a one-year deal for $4.5 million. And through six games, Pryor nearly eclipsed his numbers from his time in Washington, posting 14 receptions for 235 yards and two touchdowns so far this year.

Now a free agent, Terrelle Pryor is currently dealing with a groin injury, which is believed to be the main reason for his release. If that’s true, the Cowboys could find themselves a hidden gem by taking a flier on the 6-foot-4, 228-pound receiver that put up five receptions for 47 yards and a score against them in a Week Nine loss back in 2016.
