Why the Dallas Cowboys will lose big at home to the Jaguars

Even though the Dallas Cowboys have not yet lost at home, here is why they will take a big loss this week versus the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It’s only five weeks into the 2018 NFL season but we know who the Dallas Cowboys are and that is highly unlikely to change. This team will struggle offensively all year long. They will tax their own defense, which is on the verge of being great. One side of the room will not help the other. Every game will be a struggle. These are facts and they are not going to change.

Sure, there is time to fix things. You may hear about the receivers or occasionally the offensive line being an issue. They aren’t. There is an All-World running back on this squad, ready to devastate defenses if only he could get the slightest bit of help.

It all boils down to these three problems. A heavily flawed quarterback, scared to or incapable of making throws when the time is right. An offensive coordinator with no ability to be innovative or employ fresh concepts that weren’t in vogue in the 1970’s. A head coach to stubborn to fix either of the above and too gutless to be brave.

So here are your 2018 Dallas Cowboys. Their only chance to win games this season relies on the defense to be able to keep teams under twenty points. This week, that chance exists against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

That chance, however, seems awfully low given that the Jaguars have a defense that is a step ahead of what the Cowboys trot out week to week. Plain and simple, this is a bad matchup for an offense already on the borderline of unwatchable.

Before you get your hopes up considering the Jaguars gave up 30 points last week, consider this.

  • Carolina allowed 31 points to both the Falcons and Giants.  They allowed just eight when they played Dallas.
  • Seattle has allowed over 25 points per game in the four games they played besides their matchup against Dallas. The Cowboys could only muster 13 points versus them.
  • Houston is worse than Seattle, allowing 27 points in their four games besides the Cowboys game. Dallas had five quarters against them and could only score 16 points.

Jacksonville will right the ship this week. They have allowed 15, 12 and 9 points in three other games this year. Expect the Cowboys to fit somewhere in between that nine and fifteen range, at best.

The Dallas Cowboys only real chance to win today will be if they can miraculously force multiple turnovers or score on defense or special teams.

That chance is awfully low given that Dallas is second-to-last in forcing turnovers, with just four all year. Besides that, the last time they had a score on special teams was almost a full year ago on November 30th against Washington. The guy responsible for that score, Ryan Switzer, now plays for Pittsburgh.

As for the defense, they haven’t scored for this team since Byron Jones housed a pick against Washington in October of last year.

Today, though, you can expect more of the same recent history. Quarterback Dak Prescott will fail to throw for 200+ yards for the sixth time in his last eight games. He will throw at least one interception and take at least three sacks for the third time in his last four games.

The Jaguars will focus all of their attention on running back Ezekiel Elliott. Expect a fourth game under 80 yards rushing, due to the ineptitude of the help around him.

In fact, the only hope that remains is that the beating is worse than expected and fans finally get sick of the product provided by the Jones’ family. Since it will take getting hit over the head with a shovel for them to realize that problems exist, this is what it will take.

Sadly, I don’t believe the Jaguars offense is that good or the Dallas Cowboys defense is that bad. After today, the Cowboys will be 2-4 however. You can bank on that.

Prediction:

Jaguars 23, Cowboys 3
