The Dallas Cowboys defense did their part against a tough Texans offense. Unfortunately, their offense fizzled, leading to a loss in Houston.

In a battle for the state of Texas, the Dallas Cowboys faced off against their in-state rivals, the Houston Texas, on Sunday night. The Cowboys’ offense started off strong using the aggressiveness of the Texans’ pass rushers against them.

Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott connecting on two long passes; one going to tight end Geoff Swaim for 43 yards and the other to tight end Rico Gathers for 32 yards. Both catches leading to field goals by kicker Brett Maher. Unfortunately, running back Ezekiel Elliott wasn’t able to make any plays rushing nine times for only 30 yards in that span.

After those two drives by Dallas, the rest of the first half was dominated by the Texans offense led by quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson was able to take advantage of the Cowboys pass rush to pick up yards with his legs rushing for 36 yards.

Watson was also able to attack the Cowboys secondary throwing for 180 yards and connecting with wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins for three catches for 60 yards, tight end Ryan Griffin with three catches for 33 yards.

Watson also threw a touchdown to wide receiver Keke Coutee. The Dallas Cowboys defense did mount a first half ending goal-line stand with linebacker Jaylon Smith stopping Watson from rushing for a touchdown. That tackle kept the game from getting out of hand and kept the score 10-6 with the Texans leading at halftime.

In the second half, the Cowboys defense came up with a big turnover with slot cornerback Anthony Brown stripping the ball away from wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and cornerback Jourdan Lewis recovering the ball. That turnover led to a touchdown pass with Prescott connecting with wide receiver Allen Hurns.

The Cowboys defense in the second half was able to keep the Texans offense out of the end zone with two goal-line stops and forcing the Texans to settle for field goals. Lead by Jaylon Smith the defense, in the end, wasn’t able to keep the Texans from kicking a field goal to win the game.

Once again the Cowboys offense was unable to move the ball against the Texans.  Mustering only 232 yards of total offense, going 4-14 on third downs the offense. Once again the offense let down a defense that had three goal-line stops, a fumble, and an interception.
