Final Verdict

Based on these pros and cons, should the Dallas Cowboys consider re-signing Dez Bryant? Well, the veteran wideout would instantly boost the talent-level of this struggling receiver group. His presence on the field would presumably open up things for other receivers as well as give opposing defenses a reason not to stack the box in an effort to stop running back Ezekiel Elliott.

And let’s not forget about Bryant’s passion, especially on the sidelines and in the locker room. Although the outside media seemed to believe Dez’s emotional displays were detrimental to the team, his teammates and coaches seemed to always publicly view them as a positive.

But the issues that originally got Bryant released in the first place have not been resolved. Mainly, his lack of chemistry with Dak Prescott. And remember, it took several months for Dallas to come to the decision to release Bryant initially. And there were several factors that went into making that move. Some of which we are certainly not privy to.

At the end of the day, it’s seems unlikely the Cowboys would want to go back on their difficult decision to part ways with Bryant. Former ESPN reporter Ed Werder tweeted that his source says the Cowboys are not currently interested in re-signing Dez anyway. But would they be singing a different tune if they were 0-4?

Instead, the Dallas Cowboys are currently 2-2 sitting at second place in the NFC East. And they’ve done it with out Dez Bryant in the fold. I’d imagine Dallas will give their receiver-by-committee approach more time to develop. If it doesn’t work, look for the Cowboys to find their next “Dez Bryant” in the 2019 NFL Draft or via free agency.
