Dallas Cowboys: 4 solutions to fix their offensive struggles
Through three games, the Dallas Cowboys offense has been one of the worst in the league. Here are four solutions to fix their offensive struggles.
The Dallas Cowboys offense has been one of the worst in the league through the first three weeks of the new regular season. But that doesn’t mean it must continue down that road. It can improve. Therefore, I believe I have found four solutions that could fix the Cowboys offensive struggles.
1. Feed Zeke … especially on first down
So far in this 2018 season, running back Ezekiel Elliott has run the ball 48 times for 274 yards and scored two touchdowns. That is an average of 5.7 yards per carry which is outstanding, but Elliott has run the ball no more than 17 times a game in the Cowboys first three outings this season.
That number is far too low if the Dallas offense wants to be successful. Far too many times the Cowboys are passing on first down, instead of giving the ball to Elliott and trying to lean on him to keep them ahead of the chains.
When your quarterback is not a star, and your running back is, you have to lean on him to carry your offense. Elliott running the ball 16-17 times a game is not close to enough, and in my opinion a big reason why the Cowboys offense is struggling.
Already this season too many times we have seen an incomplete pass on first down, then a run on second down and ten. Dallas needs to lean on Elliott to be the guy that moves there offense down the field. If the Cowboys offense wants to turn this around and be successful it starts by giving the best player on the field the football 25-30 times a game.
