Dallas Cowboys offense absent in embarrassing loss to Seahawks
The Dallas Cowboys offense was near non-existent against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday afternoon, leaving America’s Team a disappointing 1-2.
Coming off their first win of the season last Sunday night, the Dallas Cowboys looked like a team on the rise going into Week Three facing the winless Seattle Seahawks. But both the Cowboys offense and defense struggled, allowing the Seahawks to get their first victory of the season, 24-13.
Quarterback Dak Prescott was only able to complete 19 of his 34 passes for 168 yards, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions. Prescott was under intense pressure all game long as his offensive line continues to struggle without center Travis Frederick securing the middle. Dak was sacked five times.
Strangely, the Cowboys offense refused to execute the run-pass option (RPO) in this game, as Prescott only rushed the ball twice for 21 yards. It was a tactic that was very successful in their big win over the New York Giants in Week Two.
Running back Ezekiel Elliott was able to post 127 rushing yards on 16 carries. But Zeke stepped out of bounds negating a game-changing touchdown reception. He also had a critical fumble late in the game that sealed the victory for Seattle.
The Cowboys receiver corps did Prescott no favors in this contest, as the hurried quarterback often struggled to find open targets. Tight end Geoff Swaim led the team in receptions with five catches for 47 yards. Wide receiver Tavon Austin scored the only touchdown for Dallas on the day on a short shovel pass from Prescott.
Linebackers Sean Lee and rookie Leighton Vander Esch tied for the team lead in combined tackles with 11 each. Fellow linebacker Jaylon Smith was able to record a sack, while Lee and defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence each recorded half a sack.
Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson completed 16 of his 26 passes for 192 yards and two scores. Seahawks running back Chris Carson rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries. Wide receiver Tyler Lockett racked up four receptions for 77 yards and a score against the Dallas defense.
The 1-2 Dallas Cowboys will now travel back home to take on the 0-2 Detroit Lions in AT&T Stadium next Sunday, September 30th at Noon CDT.
