The Dallas Cowboys will host the New York Giants in their home opener on Sunday night. Here’s what fans need to know about the 2018 G-Men.

NFC East foes will go head-to-head on primetime this Sunday night as the 0-1 Dallas Cowboys host the 0-1 New York Giants at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Both teams head into this contest desperately needing a win.

Prior to the divisional matchup, The Landry Hat had a chance to go behind enemy lines and ask five questions of GMEN HQ’s Curt Macysyn, expert of FanSided’s Giants’ fan site. Here is the result and what fans need to know about this season’s version of the New York Giants.

#1. In your opinion did the Giants make a mistake drafting running back Saquon Barkley over quarterback Sam Darnold?

CM: It’s way too early to call that decision a mistake. I think we have to see how Saquon Barkley pans out over his career. But I do think the entire scenario calls into questions how general manager Dave Gettleman attacked the New York Giants rebuild.

I believe that Giants brass fell in love with Barkley and that perhaps there was little to no discussion of the “what if Darnold falls to us” scenario. I wrote a piece before the draft that considered the Cleveland Browns taking Baker Mayfield, so Darnold’s availability should have caught no one by surprise.

On top of it, the team doubled-down with Eli Manning as their quarterback of today and tomorrow, so that gives us even more drama. Keep in mind, a vast majority of the fanbase wanted Barkley, so the planets seemed to align with this love affair, especially throughout training camp.

Then came opening night in Detroit, the New York Jets dominance, and everything changed. Some of us advocated taking a quarterback in the pre-draft roll up, and I even thought Josh Allen should be in play for Big Blue.  You never know how things are going to eventually end up, but I am confident that the Barkley – Darnold debate will rage on in the Big Apple for a long time.
