The Dallas Cowboys will start off the regular season on the road in a Week One matchup with the Carolina Panthers. Here’s what you need to know.

The Dallas Cowboys will start the 2018 NFL regular season on the road, in Charlotte, North Carolina to face off against the Carolina Panthers. The Cowboys enter the new year with several questions at key positions.

All offseason, the wide receiver corps in Dallas has been under an intense spotlight. From the release of longtime number one wide receiver Dez Bryant to the abrupt retirement of legendary tight end Jason Witten, who will be catching the passes for America’s Team in 2018 has been a hot topic nationally.

Despite the questions about the offense, the Cowboys defense is likely the bigger concern. Specifically at the safety position. With former first-round selection Byron Jones being moved back to corner this offseason, a void at starting safety besides veteran Jeff Heath has yet to be filled.

Second-year safety Xavier Woods was slated to take up that role, but a hamstring injury will sideline him against the Panthers. And trade attempts for disgruntled All-Pro safety Earl Thomas with the Seattle Seahawks were reportedly rejected. That leaves the Cowboys with Kavon Frazier, rookie Tyree Robinson, and newcomer Ibraheim Campbell to fill that need.

As for the Panthers, they are coming off an impressive 11-5 season in 2017 where they lost four games at home including a defeat at the hands of the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
