Dallas Cowboys 2018: Updated 53-man roster cuts tracker
With the regular season about to kick off, the Dallas Cowboys must now trim down their bloated 90-man roster to just 53 players. We’ll track those cuts.
Saturday 3:00 p.m. CT. That’s the NFL’s mandated deadline for the Dallas Cowboys and every other team in the league to cut down their roster from 90-players to just 53 men. That means nearly 1,200 professional football players will be sent to the unemployment line over the weekend.
For much of the preseason, the headlines in Dallas have been about who would make the Cowboys’ active roster. Names like tight end Rico Gathers, wide receiver Lance Lenoir, running back Bo Scarbrough, and defensive end Kony Ealy are all believed to be on the bubble. And their fate will be decided in the next 48 hours.
News about these cuts often trickles out via social media hours or even a day before the deadline as players and their agents are notified early about their status. Below, we’ll do our best to track those announcements and provide you with the source of the information.

The Dallas Cowboys will travel to Carolina to face the Panthers on Sunday, September 9, 2018, to kick off their regular season schedule. The Week One matchup will be the debut of Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, who was held out the entire preseason.
As for Carolina, the Panthers feature former NFL MVP Cam Newton at quarterback. Newton now has a first-round wide receiver to throw to in D.J. Moore. The Maryland wideout was potentially a target for the Cowboys in the 2018 NFL Draft, but Dallas opted to select Bosie State linebacker Leighton Vander Esch instead.
Last season, the Carolina Panthers posted an 11-5 record earning themselves a Wild Card bid in the playoffs. The Panthers lost in that postseason contest to the New Orlean Saints, 31-26.
