Why the Dallas Cowboys’ defense is brilliant (almost)

Hey there Big D! How about this for a change: Let’s talk about the Dallas Cowboys‘ defense! Here are four quick thoughts on our savior of a unit.

OMG. The Dallas Cowboys are 0-3. It’s going to be a terrible season, one where we watch the Boys drown in NFC East competition. Guys. Come on.

The same people writing off the Cowboys are those that share the same whirlpool with folks who love preseason football. Sure, the reserves in the Dallas football cabinet haven’t been all that great. But let’s not judge the final product by reading the first draft of a story.

My friends, it’s going to get better. And before we count all the rough edges in Big D and plastic formed sentences, let’s be aware of the bright spots. Because let’s be real here, there are many despite the fact the Cowboys are hurting on the front line and starters are just chit chatting on the sidelines.

I’m loving this version of the Cowboys’ defense. I’m loving it a lot. The love is growing as the weeks go on, so let’s dive into my thoughts on the defense that is going from zero to brilliant.

Ticket to ride

Number 24 is only 23-years old. But, announcers are already proclaiming the young star the next big thing in the NFL. Yeah, okay, we heard that before, right?

Still, Chidobe Awuzie has displayed flashes all summer, leftover momentum from his rookie days. I’ve always had a thing for cornerbacks who played some wide receiver in their careers. Hey quarterbacks, feel free to throw him a pick or two. I’m sure a pick-six wouldn’t hurt here and there.

Bottom line: Will prove to be a steal in the 2017 draft. First round talent who was taken 60th overall in the NFL Draft. Big. Mistake. He’s going to prove it, too.

Back to the Big D of things

With the rise of the defense, I’m starting to feel like the load can come off the offensive line and surrounding players. The front line has the global appreciation, but with Travis Frederick and Zack Martin banged up, the Cowboys need some help across the sidelines.

Running back Ezekiel Elliott was the potion for a good defense. With a better defense in play, things around Dallas are going to change.

Bottom line: Stayed tune. The defense in Big D is making a comeback.

With Randy Gregory

The best case in a worst-case scenario is shaping up in favor of the Dallas Cowboys. You can laugh at Gregory. Mark him with a big fat, red “X” symbol. Do what you want, but you gotta believe this guy ain’t no Rolando McClain. This is a storyline I can’t wait for. The launch can’t come soon enough.

Bottom line: Randy Gregory + Chidobe Awuize + DeMarcus Lawrence + Jaylon Smith + Byron Jones = Army

Some safety for the safeties

Do the Cowboys wanna chat with the Seattle Seahawks? I don’t know. The price may have tipped higher, putting our Pacific Northwest friends in a favorable spot. Darn. I still don’t expect the Cowboys to pay up for safety Earl Thomas.

Next. Ranking every top-10 pick in Dallas Cowboys’ history. dark

Bottom line: Okay, I’m a little nervous at the backfield part. While I think Byron Jones, Jourdan Lewis and of course, Chidobe Awuize can handle their duties, the safety spots are going to be topics. The Cowboys may have rolled the dice by not drafting more and may meet regret as the season rolls on.
