With the Dallas Cowboys possibly losing three starters for opening night, it is imperative they have the proper depth. Will the front office make it happen?

With recent injuries to offensive line starters Zack Martin, Travis Frederick, and safety Xavier Woods, we will soon learn a lot about the Dallas Cowboys front office.

The 2018 Cowboys, when completely healthy, have the talent to be a solid playoff team and even an NFC Championship contender. This has been the case for this team since the Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott ushered in a new era of Cowboys football. And with depth playing a huge role in the struggles of 2017, the organization claims they’ve learned from their issues last year.

The front office has come out and admitted to its depth deficiencies and acted upon it by adding linebacker Leighton Vander Esch and offensive lineman Connor Williams. But by ignoring the safety position and not adding enough on the offensive line, the team has found itself in a precarious position.

The team has $15 million in cap room to make free agent acquisitions and has the ammo to make trades as well. In the secondary, the obvious solutions include Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas. In free agency, Eric Reid is available and has had Pro Bowl potential in his career and offers the versatility the team so often desires.

But due to a game of chicken and an infusion of politics into football, it seems as though both those options are unlikely in the immediate future.

Even though Martin is set to come back soon, his injury scare was a preview of the dire situation the team would be in if it lost him. And with the injury news on Travis Frederick, the teams worst fears are manifesting.

Because of the potential of this team, the development of its young quarterback, and the coaching staffs jobs; the team must make moves that will keep the ship afloat. Offensive lineman Chaz Green is a walking example of what a lack of depth can do to a team, as well as what one terrible game can do to a players psyche.
