Through the Dallas Cowboys first two preseason games, and considering a few early injuries, here is my mid-preseason projected 53-man roster.

With two games in the books and multiple practices in the rearview mirror, the Dallas Cowboys have officially hit the midway portion of the preseason.

We are exactly 19 days away from teeing up the football in Carolina. Which campers will be making that trip? Time will tell, but it won’t stop us from projecting the final 53-man roster.

The real roster trimming will happen on September 1. In the meantime, let’s jump right into who should be on this team as of today, August 21.

OFFENSE (24)

Quarterbacks (2)

Dak Prescott, Cooper Rush

Look, I’m not in love with the concept of Cooper Rush being one bad hit or one funky step away from leading this team. The front office better not be either. I fully expect a veteran to be in the mix post-September 1 but as stated above, we’re talking about today.

Mike White has done nothing to earn a roster spot. If he makes it through cuts and comes back to the Cowboys via the practice squad, then fine. Otherwise, I’m using precious spots on the roster for guys who will actually produce in 2018.

Running backs (4)

Ezekiel Elliott, Rod Smith, Darius Jackson, Jamize Olawale

I briefly entertained the thought of five running backs, but it’s unnecessary given the load Elliott will carry in 2018. At this point, I’m taking Jackson over Bo Scarborough. Both have had good camps but Jackson is just slightly ahead right this moment.
