Which Dallas Cowboys passer will step up: Cooper Rush or Mike White?

The Dallas Cowboys are going into their second preseason game with questions at the backup quarterback position. Who will separate themselves this weekend?

Last week against the San Francisco 49ers, Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys first-team offense without Ezekiel Elliott, were able to move the ball and score.

After their first drive, the Cowboys marched out Cooper Rush and Mike White and the offense stalled. Neither quarterback really was able to separate themselves from the other. Both played well and put up nice numbers.

Cooper Rush had more players with him that would be starting or have major roles in this offense. He also went up against a better defense than White did. With a stat line of 15 caught passes, 145 yards and one touchdown and a passer rating of 97.2 you would think he will be their backup. The problem that Rush had was his accuracy was off most of the game.

Some passes sailed high and Cooper threw some receivers into a defender waiting to make a hit.  That is a problem Prescott has had in the past and it looks like Rush might have it too. It will be something the Dallas Cowboys need to keep an eye on.

Mike White played with less talented players on offense and defense during his time on the field. The rookie played well connecting with receivers on six passes for 63 yards and a passer rating of 71.4. Yes, these numbers seem low but White was under pressure a lot and the Dallas Cowboys ran the ball majority of his time on the field.

I would like to see the Cowboys give White the chance to play behind the same offensive line Rush had. Giving him a line with players that will most likely make a practice squad roster or be on the street isn’t going to help him. Hopefully, he will get the chance to play with and against more talented players this week.

The Dallas Cowboys need to find out what they have in both of these quarterbacks so they can keep the right guy to back up Prescott. If they don’t see either of them doing that then they need to be ready to trade for or sign someone who will be cut at the end of the preseason.
