#7. Conner Williams play

Williams got more reps than the other starting lineman, and while he could have played better, he showed enough going against NFL defensive lineman for the first time. He did get beat by Solomon Thomas but he was the third overall pick in last years draft for a reason. He will need to get better especially at getting to the second level, but Williams looks to be a solid starter at left guard.

#8. No major injuries

Marqueston Huff (groin), Marcus Martin (toe), and Marchie Murdock (ankle) are the only injuries of note. Preseason is great to get playing time and repetitions but injuries have to be avoided. The Cowboys are hoping these guys can come back from these ailments.

The Bad

#9- Chaz Green

After last years poor performance, many were looking for improvements from Chaz green. It didn’t show in his play Thursday against the 49ers. Green routinely got pushed around and gave up a sack to rookie seventh-round draft pick Jullian Taylor. Green needs to play better, way better.

#10- Anthony Brown

Brown is the starting slot corner for now, but he will have to improve to hold onto the position. Brown got flagged twice and that was in limited snaps. Sometimes he makes the “wow” play, and sometimes he leaves you scratching your head. With Jourdan Lewis hot on his heels, Brown better play better the rest of the preseason if he wants to keep getting snaps.

Despite the score, the first preseason game was a good showing for the Cowboys. The starters on offense and defense made some plays and confirmed some of the coach’s speak of solid play coming out of training camp. After a solid performance, the Cowboys look to improve with more playing time from the first team next Saturday against the Bengals.
