Kavon Frazier, Safety

After a mysterious blood issue caused him to miss part of training camp, safety Kavon Frazier was able to participate in the Cowboys first preseason and excelled. The former sixth-rounder made an impressive tackle on special teams. And Frazier was also able to tip a pass on a safety blitz that landed in the hands of linebacker Joe Thomas for an interception.

It wasn’t a perfect day for the 23-year defender, as he did miss an open-field tackle that allowed a big gain for the Niners. But all-in-all, it was a solid performance that should help Frazier’s cause to secure a backup role at safety.

Dak Prescott, Quarterback

Although he only played one series and threw just three passes, quarterback Dak Prescott looked good in his 2018 debut. Without veterans like tight end Jason Witten or wide receiver Dez Bryant, Prescott was still able to orchestrate an impressive 10-play 75-yard opening drive that was capped off by a 30-yard touchdown pass to rookie receiver Michael Gallup.

Prescott went a perfect 3 for 3 passing the ball on his lone series. And he had a 12-yard run on third down to keep the drive alive. Prescott has faced many questions this offseason. Although this limited performance will not stop the catcalls, it should quiet them a bit.

Rod Smith, Running back

Playing without starting running back Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys rushing attack didn’t miss a beat with backup Rod Smith in the game. The fourth-year veteran racked up 32 yards on eight carries including a 15-yard scamper on his opening run. Smith touched the ball six times on the Cowboys first offensive drive that resulted in an early touchdown. Add him to the list of training camp stars who carried their games over into this first preseason contest.

Bo Scarbrough, Running back

In his NFL debut, seventh round selection Bo Scarbrough actually led the Cowboys in rushing yards with 33 yards on nine carries. He also scored his first touchdown on a one-yard run on the goal line. Still not a lock to make the final 53-man roster, Scarbrough put on a solid performance in his first of what should be plenty of action in the preseason.
