While Dallas Cowboys practice reports are entertaining, tonight’s preseason opener will begin to answer questions about these five key players.

After several weeks removed from actual football activities, Dallas Cowboys training camp reports are welcome entertainment for fans to digest and discuss.

The harsh reality remains that practice standouts often turn into fool’s gold when real game competition takes place and live bullets start flying.

Former safety Byron Jones was showered in praise during two of his first three training camps.

Nevertheless, the notable summer standout was involved in his second position switch this offseason. While impressive in August, his regular season results weren’t enough to keep from attempting new angles to find a better fit.

August practices are a far cry from actual game competition. Protection from injury and scripted match-ups fail to paint the full picture of a player’s worth when it counts.

Most fans have read who’s doing well in the manufactured settings, but tonight we’ll get a first glimpse of who can actually back it up under the lights.

Watching these five players perform against San Francisco will help answer many of the most crucial questions facing the Dallas Cowboys before the 2018 season.
