Entering his third season, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott deserves his “now” time. All the negative “never” talk will just have to wait.

So far, 2018 hasn’t been easy for Dak Prescott. First off, the Dallas Cowboys sent Dez Bryant out of the Texas sun. The security blanket, also known as Jason Witten, retired, opting for a microphone over a helmet.

On top of these scenarios, the media is getting up and close to Prescott’s face. There are questions about the team becoming Dak friendly. About his accuracy. His downfall in 2017. About his ceiling or how it might compare to quarterback Tony Romo.

Regardless of what you might think, the truth feels like the media is setting up the young gun for failure. No matter what avenue the 24-year old turns, the obstacles are right there. Fail, then it’s “lol” time. We told you so.

But if he gets a green light, succeeds, well it’s simple: Wait until the next game for a mistake. Repeat. And repeat.

You see, isn’t this the same formula fans and the media overcast upon Romo? The only good enough scenario is winning the trophy. Oddly enough, the only passing grade Prescott can achieve is winning the trophy.

Because in Big D, nobody will truthfully lend their stamp of approval without the hardware to bypass the system. Prescott hasn’t landed on the field yet, but he’s already answering questions about his ability and what makes him a valid in this league.

If anything, Prescott’s road to sustainability is looking a lot more difficult than Romo’s venture. In just his third season as a starter, it’s already feeling like Prescott is fighting the now or never theme.

Because, you know, the Cowboys have Mike White and a next-gen star in Cooper Rush. Cowboys fans are the most restless folks, and I’m not combating that I have some of that fire in my blood as well.

At the same token, let’s rejoice that the football orbit gave us someone to stand up to big questions. A quarterback worthy to be in the news, which is something in itself. We’re not in quarterback purgatory.

These days, Prescott is answering questions about leading and winning. About the Cowboys chances to thrive in a thriving NFC conference.

In case you haven’t noticed, it’s still Dak time … until, of course, it isn’t. The energy around the new Dak universe might feel a bit like now or never, but that’s the type of pressure that carves winners.

Dak Prescott deserves his now time. The never talk will have to wait.
