Dallas Cowboys: 30 greatest players in franchise history
In the history of the NFL, not many teams have ever found their franchise quarterback as an undrafted free agent. But that was exactly what Tony Romo was coming out of Eastern Illinois back in 2003.
It took just over three seasons before Romo would take over the starting role in Dallas. But once he did, the only thing that could keep Tony off the field was injury.
Statically, the greatest quarterback in Cowboys’ history, Romo is the franchise leader in passing yards (34,183) and passing touchdowns (248). Of Dallas’ other top quarterbacks, Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman, Tony leads the three in completion percentage (65.3), yards per passing attempt (7.9), and QB rating (97.1).
While under center, Romo earned himself four Pro Bowl nominations and was named to the All-Pro second team in 2014.
Tony Romo was a polarizing figure while the quarterback of America’s Team. And the fact he was never able to win more than two playoff games during his tenure in Dallas all but seals his Hall of Fame fate. But he is undoubtedly one of the greatest Cowboys in franchise history.
