3. Rod Smith, RB

One of the more under the radar players on the Cowboys roster to look out for in 2018 is Rod Smith. The Ohio State product ended his 2017 season very strong, scoring five touchdowns over the last six games of the season.

Although Smith ended the season on a very high note, it did not stop the Cowboys from upgrading the running back position this offseason. Dallas drafted Bo Scarbrough, traded for Tavon Austin, and resigned Darius Jackson who was with the team in 2016.

Even though he had very solid production down the stretch, securing the backup running back position seems like nothing but a sure thing for Smith.

Scarbrough and Jackson are both younger than Smith, and with the Cowboys offense getting younger, could be a challenge for Smith.

His contract also runs out at the end of this season, making his status on the team for next season up in the air. Out of the three, Smith is clearly the most experienced, and overall probably most talented at the position.

But with the potential options their to replace him waiting in the wings, it will be vital that Smith gets off to a quick start at training camp, and solidifies himself as the teams backup running back.
