Dallas Cowboys fans rejoice! Darius Jackson is back
On Wednesday, the Dallas Cowboys signed former 2016 sixth rounder and fan favorite running back Darius Jackson to their bloated roster.
The 2016 NFL Draft was a legendary one for the Dallas Cowboys. It’s because of that draft that the Cowboys have running back Ezekiel Elliott, linebacker Jaylon Smith and quarterback Dak Prescott on their roster.
But some forget that Dallas also have a whopping four sixth round picks that year due to their granted compensatory selections. Three of those four picks are currently on the roster. As of Wednesday, you can now say all four are.
Selected 216th overall in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, out of Easter Michigan, running back Darius Jackson has now been re-signed to the Cowboys roster. The prodigal son returns.
In college, the 6-0, 221 pound back posted 1,088 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns his senior season with the Eagles. Jackson also recorded 21 receptions for 201 yards and two more scores.
Jackson had an impressive preseason run his rookie year in Dallas, posting 141 rushing yards, five receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown in four games. It appeared he was the perfect, young developmental back to pair with Elliott.
But to the dismay of many Cowboy fans, Dallas opted to release Jackson in the final month of his rookie season in order to add veteran running back Darren McFadden to their active roster. The Cowboys intended on placing Darius on their practice squad, but the Cleveland Browns scooped him up off waivers.
Jackson never played a single snap for the Browns as a knee injury landed him on Injured Reserve last June. Cleveland parted ways with the third-year running back earlier this month. Now, Jackson returns to Dallas to rejoin a running backs room that includes Elliott, Rod Smith, Bo Scarbrough, Trey Williams and Jordan Chunn.

The Dallas Cowboys also signed wide receiver Mekale McKay and defensive end Antwaun Woods to their roster on Wednesday. Dallas released guard Jay Robertson and defensive tackle DeQuinton Osborne in a corresponding move.
