The Dallas Cowboys have a need for a playmaker in their defensive secondary. Could Tyree Robinson be the guy to fill the void at free safety?

Many fans still believe that the Dallas Cowboys still need to find a free safety for this defense. Names that have been thrown out there consistently are Earl Thomas, Kenny Vaccaro, and Tre Boston. The Cowboys seem to have a different feeling about their safety situation.

They want to see what they have in the players they brought in. One candidate could be Tyree Robinson, an undrafted rookie free agent out of Oregon.

Coming in at 6-foot-2 and 202 pounds with 4.5 speed, Robinson looks the part of a free safety in the NFL. After watching his film, he could also be what the Cowboys have been looking for.

Robinson is a player who is always around the football. Whether it be making physical tackles, breaking up passes, or interceptions, he has shown he has a knack for making plays. That’s something the Cowboys have needed from a safety for while now.

The undrafted rookie can line up at safety and cornerback giving the Cowboys the same matchup ability as former first rounder Byron Jones. That will come in handy when teams use an athletic tight end or a taller slot receiver.

During his time at Oregon, Robinson’s career stat line in 52 games were 201 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, six interceptions (two returned for touchdowns), 23 pass break-ups, and 4 recovered fumbles. And you know the Cowboys are very good at finding diamonds in the UDFA field.

If the Dallas Cowboys can strike gold again with Tyree Robinson, they will have saved themselves a lot of money and found themselves a player that can have an immediate impact as a backup to presumed starting safety Xavier Woods.
