Dallas Cowboys 2018 NFL Draft: Post-Free Agency 7-round mock
By Tyrone Starr
With the 19th pick in the first round, the Dallas Cowboys select …
Harold Landry, LB, Boston College University
Linebackers Rashaan Evans and Leighton Vander Esch were available. So to were defensive tackles Da’Ron Payne and Maurice Hurst. In the end, I chose to go get another pass rusher and here’s why.
Even with DeMarcus Lawrence back, he’s on another one-year deal with no real hope of a long-term deal in sight. Last year’s rookie end still has lots of room to improve. Beyond that, the defensive line is full of versatile guys that can rush the passer, but it’s not their man prowess.
Enter Harold Landry.

At 6’3″ and 252 lbs, Landry has the type of body frame that can add muscle without losing speed or quickness. Landry ran a 4.64-forty-yard dash and shined during the shuttle and cone drills at the combine.
In case you are wondering, he’s not just a combine warrior. He’s a producer on the field as well. With career totals of 26 sacks and 47.5 tackles for loss, Landry makes a habit of being in the backfield.
Landry’s body type reminds you of DeMarcus Ware, who, if you remember, had a nice career here in Dallas. At worst, he provides insurance in case Charlton never materializes or Randy Gregory never becomes what we hope.
At best, he gives Lawrence a running mate on the opposite side and lets the Cowboys get rid of Tyrone Crawford next year. That move would save over $19M in future cap money, which could go to a long-term deal for Lawrence.
