With the first two weeks of free agency in the books, we reassess the Dallas Cowboys’ roster needs heading into the 2018 NFL Draft.

After a week of reality quiet, the Dallas Cowboys exploded in week two of free agency making a flurry of signings. And the Cowboys were able to fill many of their voids, inking veterans to modest contracts at key positions of need.

With our focus now turn towards upcoming pro days and the 2018 NFL Draft, let’s take this time to reassess the Cowboys’ positional needs heading into the big event.

Linebacker

Despite having both Pro Bowler Sean Lee and Jaylon Smith on the roster, plus signing veteran Joe Thomas in free agency, the Cowboys still have a big need at linebacker. Both Lee and Smith come with heavy injury concerns. And with the former turning 32-years old before the start of the season, Dallas has to consider drafting his future replacement.

Wide Receiver

Although Dallas did sign both Allen Hurns and Deonte Thompson in free agency, the undecided future of Dez Bryant makes it a strong possibility that the Cowboys look to the draft early to find themselves a future superstar wide receiver.

Free Safety

With the rumored move to send Byron Jones back to cornerback, free safety suddenly becomes a major need in Big D. And the fact the Cowboys have refused to sign any of the veteran safeties currently available in free agency only points to their intent to find themselves one in the draft or via a trade.

Offensive Guard

The Cowboys signed lineman Cameron Fleming and Marcus Martin via free agency this week. They also re-signed guard/center Joe Looney. But Dallas still needs a starting left guard. And if they do not intend on moving starting right tackle La’el Collins, the draft is where Dallas will likely find him.

Defensive Tackle

The Cowboys need a true one-technique defensive tackle. And they believe they can find one late in the upcoming draft. Unless a special one happens to fall into their laps, expect Dallas to use a day three selection or two to address this need.
