Dallas Cowboys addition of Cameron Fleming secures O-Line
The Dallas Cowboys are expected to sign former New England Patroits offensive tackle Cameron Fleming, a move which shores up their offensive line.
For several years, the Dallas Cowboys offensive line has been seen as the team’s top positional group, and one of the scariest in the NFL. Last year this unit, which features three perennial Pro Bowlers, faltered.
Injuries to left tackle Tyron Smith combined with the loss of two starters last offseason (Doug Free, retirement; Ronald Leary, free agency) were too much for this talented group to overcome. This exposed the offensive line’s lack of quality depth, resulting in some terrible performances by this normally elite unit.
To address those concerns, it appears the Cowboys are bringing in a talented free agent to shore up their O-line. According to ESPN NFL insider Field Yates, Dallas is expected to sign former New England Patroits offensive tackle Cameron Fleming.
A fourth round selection out of Stanford in 2014, Fleming has played mostly a reserve role for the Patroits during his time in New England. Out of his 47 games played, the 25-year old lineman has started 20 of those contests.
Last year, Fleming started six games in the regular season, including the five final games of the year, the AFC Championship game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and in the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles.
In Fleming the Cowboys have found themselves a starting-caber player who either becomes their new swing tackle or someone who replaces veteran La’el Collins at right tackle as a starter. Collins’ first position in Dallas was at left guard.
With former starting left guard Jonathan Cooper inking a one-year deal to join the San Francisco 49ers earlier in the week, there is the potential to move Collins back to his previous position along the Cowboys’ offensive line.
