The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly interested in free agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, who was recently released by the Miami Dolphins.

The Dallas Cowboys have remained quiet though the days leading up to the opening of NFL free agency, which kicked off on Wednesday afternoon.

Although there have been rumors of the Cowboys dabbling in the open market, like the interest in now Kansas City Chiefs’ wide receiver Sammy Watkins, nothing has yet to materialize. But that may change soon.

According to ESPN reporter Dianna Russini‏, the Cowboys are one of two teams (Seattle Seahawks) interested in signing former Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. Still considered one of the best players at his position, the 31-year old veteran inked an incredible six-year, $114 million in 2015. But by cutting him now, the Dolphins saved nearly $4 million off their salary cap.

Despite entering his ninth season in the NFL, Suh has yet to miss a single game due to injury in his entire professional career.

The veteran defender was the second overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. A five-time Pro Bowler, Suh recorded 48 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 2017. He’s recorded a total of 51.5 sacks in eight seasons.

The Cowboys have a tremendous need for a talent like Suh on the interior of their defensive line, with starters Maliek Collins having a down second season and David Irving being limited to just eight games due to a PED suspension and a concussion. Irving is a restricted free agent this season and was just offered a second-round tender.

Adding Suh to the roster in Dallas would solidify a defensive line that featured the league’s top pass rusher in DeMarcus Lawrence. The presence of a veteran like Ndamukong would likely help Lawrence exceed the career-high 14.5 sacks he posted in 2017. Dallas also used their first round selection in the 2017 NFL Draft on Michigan defensive end Taco Charlton, who would undoubtedly benefit from Suh’s addition.

One area Suh could really help the Cowboys is in attitude. For years, the All-Pro defender was seen as one the nastiest, dirtiest and meanest players in the entire league. It’s an attitude some believe has been severely lacking within this current version of America’s Team. And it’s one fans of players like Hall of Famer Charles Haley would love to see inserted back into this defensive line.

The main concern with the Dallas Cowboys signing a player like Ndamukong Suh is, of course, his hefty price tag. But if the Cowboys opt to make one big splash in free agency this offseason, Suh could be the perfect choice.
