We keep hearing the Dallas Cowboys will become a more Dak friendly offense but what does that look like? Here are three changes the Cowboys can start with.

The Dallas Cowboys have vowed to make their offense more Dak-Friendly this upcoming season. Which simply means shaping the roster and the gameplan to maximize the abilities of third-year quarterback Dak Prescott. I see this happening in three steps.

The first step doesn’t involve the players, but the Cowboys coaching staff. They must become less predictable. During last season, the NFL Network’s Jane Slater reported that some of Dallas’ players expressed frustration concerning their playbook.

This problem lies with head coach Jason Garrett and offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. Both must start developing different plays to give their players a better chance to succeed. I think we can all agree that the same old fake reverse end around play isn’t fooling anyone.

Next, I would take a page out of quarterback Dak Prescott’s Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen’s playbook. Mullen’s philosophy on offense is to keep defenses guessing. Spreading out defenses with four-receiver sets forcing them to play sideline to sideline while still employing a physical run-first offense. Keeping teams on their toes not only helps Prescott but also running back Ezekiel Elliott and his best receiver Dez Bryant, if he isn’t cut this offseason.

Lastly, the coaching staff can create more rub routes in their plays to get the receivers open for Prescott. The Cowboys rely on their receivers to win their matchups against defenders. Teams like the New England Patriots, are using these rub routes on regular basis to create space for their smaller receivers like Julian Edelman. This also gives quarterback Tom Brady larger throwing windows. Adding these rub routes will help Prescott and his receivers almost immediately.

Whether its new plays, changing the offensive scheme or adding more rub routes the coaching staff needs to listen to their players and adapt to these defenses.
