Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones is tickled pink that he was able to add this in-demand coach to the team’s staff this offseason.

Following the Dallas Cowboys disappointing 9-7 season, some expected head coach Jason Garrett to get the boot. If not Garrett, surely coordinators Scott Linehan (offensive) and Rod Marinelli (defense) would be shown the door. Nope. All three still remain a month into the offseason.

But that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been an exodus of Cowboy coaches. There actually has been a ton of turnover. Gone are Quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson, Wide Receivers coach Derek Dooley, Tight Ends coach Steve Loney, Offensive Line coach Frank Pollack, Linebackers coach Matt Eberflus, Secondary coach Joe Maker and Special Teams coach Rich Bisaccia.

Presented with that massive list, you may wonder exactly who’s left outside of Garrett, Linehan and Marinelli. Well, that would be Running Back coach Gary Brown, Defensive Tackles coach Leon Lett and Safeties coach Greg Jackson.

With only three positional coaches slated to return, the Cowboys have been busy filling the voids in their staff. Although they are not quite finished, here’s some of the new coaches that have been hired or promoted from within so far: Offensive Line coach Paul Alexander, Linebackers coach Ben Bloom, Secondary coach/Defensive Passing Game coordinator Kris Richard and Special Teams coach Keith O’Quinn.

But there was one particular hire owner and general manager Jerry Jones was super excited about landing. And that was the addition of Sanjay Lal as the Cowboys new wide receiver coach.

"“I’m really pleased with our coach, [Sanjay Lal’s] a real find for us,” Jerry Jones told DallasCowboys.com. “He was one of the most-sought-after coaches in the offseason that I’ve seen in a long time. I don’t know when I’ve seen when a position coach has been more sought-after than he was in the offseason.”"

According to DallasCowboys.com’s Bryan Broaddus, some believe that Sanjay Lal has a real chance of becoming an offensive coordinator someday. For now, the Cowboys new wide receiver coach will have his hands full trying to turn around a unit that severely underperformed in 2017.

The Dallas Cowboys newest offensive coach has one famous supporter as Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Sammy Watkins credits Lal with improving his game. With an emphasis on detailed route running, perhaps Sanjay Lal has as good a chance as anyone of getting this Cowboys wide receiver corps pointed in the right direction.
